Keep the customer and the next job connected.

Create a customer, open an opportunity, and keep sales follow-up attached to the right work.

Know which record to use

A customer is the person or business you work for. A property identifies a job location. An opportunity is a potential job for that customer. Keep separate opportunities for separate jobs, even when they share a customer or address.

Add a customer

Start in Customers. Search first so another employee’s existing record does not become a duplicate. Your company may rename fields or require additional information.

  1. Choose Add customer and select the appropriate customer type.

In Add customer, select Individual or the appropriate company customer type.

  4. Open the saved record and check that the contact and property information is correct before creating work for the customer.

Create the opportunity

Use the customer’s Add customer work menu or create an opportunity from the Opportunities workspace. Select the existing customer and correct property, name the work, and choose its job type, pipeline, stage, and owner. Add the expected value when you have a useful estimate.

  1. Choose Add customer work → Opportunity. Select the customer and location, name the work, and review Owner, Pipeline, Stage, and Job types before creating it.

Record the next action

Keep the site visit, follow-up tasks, notes, files, and linked correspondence with the opportunity. A stage shows where the sale stands; a task or appointment explains what someone should do next. Use list or board views and filters to review work by owner or stage.

Prepare to quote

Confirm the customer, location, and scope before creating a quote from the opportunity. New quotes require an open opportunity and a published quote template. If an opportunity has already been won or lost, review its status before trying to add another quote.

Build a quote and prepare the agreement

If a record seems to be missing

Clear active search and filters, check the selected pipeline, and look for archived records. Your role may also limit which records you can see. Ask your administrator to check access before creating a replacement record.
